The Guidance of God

Ps 32:8  "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.  I will guide you with My eye."

To be guided by the eye of God goes against everything I want (which may not be such a bad thing).  My natural self wants to hear a voice from heaven that says 'Go this way' or 'STOP, that will hurt you!'  Or a sign on the roadway of life that will tell me all I need to know.  But the Lord chooses a quiet, intimate way of communicating His will.  To be led by God is a sovereign waiting on Him.  When we do nothing but study a person's behaviour in order to know them totally, it takes time and patience.  But with it comes an intimacy that is well worth it.  And this is why the Lord chooses this type of guidance.  He is certainly capable of communicating any way and at any time that suites Him.  But I think it's not so much the turning left or right that's important to Him, but the relationship that develops as I keep my eyes on Him all the time.  The next verse says "Do not be like the horse or like the mule...which must be harnessed..."  He doesn't want to force us into His will, He wants us to surrender out of love.  And when the focus of our lives is God and God alone, then comes holiness, intimacy, guidance and abundant life.  I want to be so in tune with God that just a look will communicate to me His will and I will jump at the chance to do His bidding.

Holy Spirit, draw me to the throne of God that I may look upon the One who died for me.  Draw me, sweet Spirit, that I may know Him as I am known, being brought to the Light, where nothing in hidden.  Let mortality be swallowed up by Life (II Cor 5:4)
