Downcast? Disturbed? Put your hope in God

Psalm 42:5,11 WHY ARE YOU DOWNCAST OH MY SOUL? wHY SO DISTURBED WITHIN ME? PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD, FOR I WILL YET PRAISE HIM, MY SAVIOR AND MY GOD.

Verse 5 is so important for the readers to ponder that God repeats it verbatim in verse11.

As I meditate on this verse it occurs to me that the question posed at the beginning is answered at the end. God graciously instructs us that the remedy for "soul disturbance" is turning back to Him and praising Him as God and Savior. It is the soul that puts its hope in anything other than God that becomes downcast and disturbed. As simple as this truth is, we are challenged on every side, everyday, to hope in and even praise things unworthy of hope and praise. The battle for our hope and affection rages around us, but the choice is ours. We choose every moment what we will put our hope in, what we will praise. That's the deal and God is sticking to it.
