Obedience in Prayer and Witnessing

Pastor Eric Dooley was sharing the other day about how he is nervous when he shares Christ with people, but that in obedience to the Lord, he does so frequently.  In fact, it’s his goal to do so.  He often will share a sentence or two about Christ with someone, and then back off and see if the person responds.  Eric may even change the subject to keep things comfortable for the person he is sharing with.  Surprisingly, Eric says that many times the person will go back to his comment.  He says he is not especially gifted at evangelism but that obedience to the Lord is more important than how one feels.  He also said he doesn’t have to score a home run every time.  In Eric’s mind, if one isn’t sharing Christ, why even be here?
Pastor Dooley also shared that he is a man of prayer.  The Lord first challenged him to pray when he was in college.  Eric began setting an hour a day aside for prayer each day.  At first, he would fervently pray for a long time, only to discover five minutes has passed.  He stuck with it, and now prayer is an essential part of every day.  Again, his feelings and skill level had nothing to do with his obedience.  Now he is addicted to prayer and his ministry exceptionally fruitful.
