DEUTERONOMY 5:18 YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.

Fidelity is a heart matter. It is carried out with our physical bodies, but the origin of faithfulness is the heart or soul. It is here that choices are made in the inner man. The choice to love, honor, serve and be made one flesh with out mate. Jesus said that when a man looks on a woman with lust he has violated this sixth  commandment and committed adultery in his heart. When a men and women enter into a physical adulteress relationship, they are merely revealing outwardly the transgression that has already taken place in their inner secret place.

This physical act is a type of the spiritual relationship we have with Jesus. He is our groom, we are His bride. He has joined with us, given us the seal of the Holy Spirit and called us to faithfulness. The children of Israel throughout the Old Testament went whoring after false gods, constantly committing spiritual adultery. We are faced daily with the same temptations to stray from our God, the lover of our soul. It is only by His grace, His refusal to abandon us that we live and are called by His name.
