Clearer Vision
Our understanding of the Bible is hindered by many obstacles. Even the simple fact that most of us are illiterate in Greek and Hebrew limits our ability to grasp God’s truths. Race, gender, age, experience, culture, and the all encompassing snag of sin limit understanding of our eternal, holy, limitless God.
An article by Andree Seu from the February ’09 edition of World magazine gives five pointers on how to read the Word. I liked her advice and wanted to share them in this blog.
• As much as possible, apply every Bible verse to yourself
• Don’t assume a teaching is only for the early church
• Don’t assume a blessing or promise is only for the future
• Read the Word at face value as much as possible
• Err on the side of expecting too much from God
