Horse and Rider Thrown Into the Sea

“Who else among the gods is like you, O Lord?
Who is glorious in holiness like you —
So awesome in splendor,
Performing such wonders?” Exodus 15:11

When my son, Jadan, was about two years old, he accidentally saw part of The Prince of Egypt, which is about Moses and the Israelites’ escape from Egypt.  Unfortunately, the part that Jadan saw was the tenth plague, when God struck down the firstborn children of Egypt.  For the next year and a half, most prayer times had to cover protection from “Egypt and Pharaoh”.  When I became pregnant with our second child, Jadan wanted to know if Pharaoh was going to come and kill our baby.

Now Jadan is four, and stopped asking daily for protection from Pharaoh and Egypt.  I had been reading to him often from his simplified children’s Bible, but decided recently that he was ready for “the rest of the story”.  I got out my Bible and began with Moses in the bulrushes, and each of the ten plagues. It has been a delight to hear his questions, and see his excitement as the story progressed.  Of course, I didn’t read the whole story at once, giving him just enough to pique his curiosity for more!

Tonight, we finally finished with the parting of the Red Sea and the subsequent destruction of Pharaoh’s army.  I told Jadan how Moses, Miriam, and the people sang a victory song, and read him some excerpts from part of it.  The euphoria we felt from God’s display of power and glory was a gift from Him.  Jadan began tunelessly singing all kinds of songs about God kicking out the demons and being with us when we’re scared.  It was awesome to see his response to the Lord.  He went to bed singing, “Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord (It’s a very short song, Mommy.)  Amen.  You are amazing, Lord.
