Whatever You Do...

Ex 27:20-21  "And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil...for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually, in the tabernacle...Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening until morning before the Lord..."

When I read this my first reaction was 'I wouldn't want to be the one assigned to watch candles burn all night.'  Then I went on to read Act 7, about Stephen who was assigned the "menial" tasks while others were given the "spiritual" assignments.  Yet Stephen did mighty works for the Lord.  I think it all comes down to 'attitude choices'.  In Col 3:17, it says "...whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

Lord, teach me to be grateful and thankful, especially when I think something is tedious
and dull.  If you ask me to watch candles burn, then let me do it with vigor and a posture of praise. I want everything I do reflect all You are.  Help me not compare what I do with others.  Help me to only compare myself to You.  Today I choose You as I clean those toilets for the millionth time, give me the understanding that while I do the commonplace tasks, You are pleased with me.  I can do all things as long as I know You are pleased.
