Quench Not the Spirit

1 Thes. 5:19
Once upon a time, I memorized the King James Version of 1 Thessalonians 5:19 – Quench not the Spirit.  I generally don’t read King James, but he flagged me recently after grocery shopping.  Pastor Joe mentioned in his sermon on December 14th how in the Old Testament, the anointing of the Holy Spirit was a unique experience for the chosen few, but that now in New Testament times, we all have access to the Holy Spirit, and are so used to Him that we often ignore His voice.  “Now what’s all this got to do with grocery shopping?” you say.  Just that God cares about even the small seemingly non-spiritual parts of our day.  The past couple of years, I’ve begun to notice I seem drawn to certain items while grocery shopping, even though I can see no reason for getting them, and when I get home, I find that, darn, I should have bought it.  I finally realized that those are times the Holy Spirit is nudging me.  “Just trying to help ya out there, Joy.”  I’d like to get to a point were I’m noticing His nudges throughout the day.  It makes my faith grow when I respond to his prodding and see the remarkable outcomes.
