Reap the benefits of Obedience

Over that last few weeks in the New Testament, I have noted over and over how the instructions to the church on how to act are often followed by the reminder that as we adhere to these guidelines, not only are we protected as we walk under God’s covering; but our witness to unbelievers will also remain intact, untarnished.  So walking in obedience to God’s will for our lives, and following the instructions of the Word for how to live lives pleasing to Him, we will not only reap the benefits of obedience, but the Kingdom and God’s work will not be hindered.  Two examples of this are in 1 Peter.

1 Peter 2:12, 15
12Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

15For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men

So I am encouraged and challenged to live a life that is submitted to God’s will, that is pleasing to him, knowing that the benefits of accomplishing that goal will affect not only me and my family, but also my church family, and in ways that I cannot predict or understand – even the world, the lost.  God, please give me the grace to do this better.
