Jude 3,24 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. 24To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy-
Though Jude is "eager to write to the saints about his awesome God and how wonderful a salvation they shared in Christ, he is compelled to warn them instead to "contend for the faith." The word contend denotes a coming against, to confront. There were forces coming against the church in the form of godless people who had slipped into their midst. Jude refers to them as clouds without water, trees without fruit. If not contended against these evildoers will pollute and render God's church powerless. But praise be to God He is "able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy." But to reach this glorious destination, there is some contending required.
