Everyone has seems to have at least one thing that they are constantly struggling with, one thing that they need to "overcome".
In Revelation chapters 2 and 3 John writes to the seven churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. He identifies each church's specific struggle, but at the end of each letter John gives a word of encouragement from the Lord. One in particular that caught my attention was to the church of Laodicea who had allowed themselves to become "lukewarm" Christians, a problem that I believe many of us go in and out of. John ends it with this message from the Lord:
Revelation 3:21-22 (New International Version)
To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
This scripture wakes me up. It calls me to overcome that lukewarm spirit that I often notice in myself. The thought of sitting with the Lord on his throne stirs up something in my spirit that I can't fully explain. It makes me want to be better.
